Job Description: Executive Director, California Chapter of NASW
Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers worldwide, with over 120,000 members. NASW aims to enhance the professional growth of its members, maintain professional standards, and promote sound social policies.
The California Chapter of NASW, with a membership of 8,530, is seeking a full-time Executive Director with proven leadership and management skills. The ideal candidate should have a strong commitment to the social work profession and its values, a good understanding of diverse social work practices, and the ability to engage and inspire members. The Executive Director reports to the NASW Chief Operations Officer/Chapter Operations at the national level and is accountable to the California Chapter Board of Directors.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills

• Senior leadership experience in professional or non-profit organizations, including working with volunteer Boards.
  
• At least 5 years of executive-level experience.
  
• A four-year college degree is required; an MSW is preferred.
  
• Exceptional management skills, including organizational development, leadership development, and staff supervision.
  
• Proven budget and financial management abilities.
  
• Experience in planning and implementing continuing education programs.
  
• Experience in organizing and conducting in-person, virtual, or hybrid meetings.
  
• Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and strategies.
  
• Strong public policy expertise.
  
• Advocacy and legislative experience.
  
• Experience in membership services and community organizing.
  
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  
• Experience with traditional and social media in professional contexts.
  
• Commitment to providing excellent membership support and engagement.
  
• Proficiency with Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with online/cloud environments.
