Overview
TalentFish is casting a line for a Sr Systems Engineer. This is a
hybrid direct hire role in Chicago, IL (western suburbs). The
Senior Systems Engineer is an Infrastructure Subject Matter Expert
within the Global Systems Engineering team responsible for
recommending, designing, planning, building, upgrading and managing
Server systems, storage platforms, backups, virtualization, cloud
and other related systems and applications across the global
enterprise. The role will lead execution of global infrastructure
projects, ongoing support and also required to mentor and train
other staff as part of the digital transformation.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field or equivalent
combination of certifications, training and experience.
- 7+ years of advanced systems engineering experience and
expertise
- One or more advanced technical certifications including MCSE,
VCP
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Core Qualifications (Required)
- 3+ years of strong hands-on experience working with Hyper
Convergence technologies including Client Simplivity Stack or
similar solutions such as Nutanics must have Hyper Convergence
experience!
- Advanced expertise and experience with Microsoft technology
stack including Active Directory, GPO, Windows Servers
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with Cloud platforms
such as Azure, AWS, IaaS, PaaS, M365, O365 and others.
- Strong experience and expertise with VMWare 5.0 6.7 and Veeam
environments.
- Experience with Powershell and other automation/scripting
technologies.
- Experience or knowledge of Software deployment platforms
including Desktop Central or Microsoft SCCM, IT asset and patch
management tools
- Strong administrative, consulting and analytical
skills,
- Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical
personnel, effectively coordinate and organize multiple tasks and
work autonomously with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
- Ability to write and present information and
documentation
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with all company
associates and business units including executive
leadership
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices and partner with
management to ensure these are applied appropriately
- Ability and desire to develop professionally and help mentor
others
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to have)
- Experience or knowledge of AS400 is a plus
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluates emerging technologies and keeps current with industry
trends and improvements.
- Strong knowledge with on-premise servers, storage, backups,
public clouds, IAAS, PAAS, and SAAS.
- Responsible for leading effective design,
installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of server
systems hardware, software and related IT infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, SSL, TLS,
SSO, Certificates, PowerShell scripting and automations
- Work with Application and Store Systems teams to ensure
approved security policies are implemented.
- Perform capacity planning, ongoing performance tuning and
resource optimization as required of all servers and related
systems.
- Perform root cause analysis related to service disruptions and
implement changes to remediate the problems.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and
availability of all hardware, server resources and key processes,
reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of
scheduled jobs.
- Responsible for disaster recovery, business continuity, and
data backups and recovery process and procedures.
- Manage systems backups and monitor system performance and
ensure appropriate tuning as necessary
- Responsible for escalations from IT engineers and providing
timely, quality support on issues routed by the Service
Desk
- Leads and participates in regularly scheduled after hours
maintenance and system patching cycles
- Mentor other staff though leadership, guidance, support and
training as required
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures, including
those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, and
service provision.
- Maintains a broad working knowledge of the full range of the
companies IT portfolio
- Participates in IT projects with skills in planning,
organizing, prioritizing and delivering IT Projects as assigned
